Case Study Galloway Chillies Wigtown
Case Study Galloway Chillies Galloway Chillies started from my making small batches of chilli jam from my own plants grown in my kitchen. Five and a half years ago I started the business and have developed into a large scale chilli farm with a wide range of home made, premium quality produce.

I rent a commercial poly tunnel in Ayrshire that houses 600 plants, and combined with my green houses and tunnels at home I will be farming around 2000 plants by 2019. I use green growing practices including my compost and all packaging. I use glass jars as these are all recyclable and do not require further packaging. I am a one-woman band and make all my produce by hand in small batches in my own kitchen.

Additional ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible such as my cider vinegar from Ockwell and any soft fruit. I also use local professional services and support local businesses as much as possible.

I take trade stands at all local shows and festivals as well as larger national shows and fairs, and I consider Galloway Chillies to be very much an ambassador for the region and for home produce wherever I exhibit. So far I am delighted that my range of products is proving so popular and I will continue to develop new flavours and ideas using my many varieties of chilli plants.

My Chilli Burns liqueur nectar won 2nd place in the 2015 World Hot Sauce Awards, and was shortlisted for the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards and Great British Food Farm Produce Awards in 2015 My Chilli, Lime & Ginger Preserve won the National Chilli Awards in 2017.

I believe my business is unique in its range of produce and in its field-to-fork, home made quality. I am both a farmer and a retailer and use all the products, services and skills involved in these industries to produce my range of chilli jams, preserves, mustards, chutneys, jellies and more.
