Further to this and based across six bespoke training centres situated on the Dumfries House estate, Dumfries House Education offers a unique selection of education and training programmes that have been designed to support learners in Primary and Secondary education with experiential, hands-on activities linked to the Curriculum for Excellence.
Dumfries House Education provides experiences in Outdoor Education, Leadership and Confidence Building, Sport, Art, Food, Farming and Horticulture, Practical Cookery, Practical Craft Skills, Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and the most recent addition of Sewing, Fashion and Textiles adding to the unique opportunities on offer.
Dumfries House Education has evolved from the vision of His Royal Highness, The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay’s desire to see young people engage in learning experiences that promote confidence, personal development and offer training in real life skills. All of our Centres and programmes are available to schools, youth groups, local authorities and other organisations offering a unique experience for those who attend.
Through its partnership work with our sister charity The Prince’s Trust, Dumfries House Education delivers three separate Get Into programmes four times each year. Dumfries House Education and The Prince’s Trust Get Into programmes are designed to get young people aged 16 to 24 who are not in employment, education or training into a positive destination at the end of their five week course through opportunities in employment or college.
Get Into Hospitality offers young people experience in the Hospitality Industry through delivery of Front and Back of House skills mixed with real world delivery and a week of work placement.
Get into Sustainable Building offers young people experiences in Traditional and modern skills related to the Construction Industry through developing skills in Wood craft, Stone craft, Painting, Plastering, Plumbing, Electrical and Brickwork mixed with a week works placement.
Get into Woodland Management offers young people experiences in forestry skills and general estate maintenance. The programme includes attainment of basic chainsaw qualifications, first aid certificate, and a one week work placement.
