In 1993, volunteers in Moffat agreed to help to improve the appearance of the town during the festive season, leading to the creation of the Lighting Committee.
Each year this group decorate the trees in the centre of the town with white lights. However, the committee also wanted to have a large Christmas tree as a good focal point in the High Street. An approach was made to Annandale Estates to see if they could help by providing a Christmas tree to be located outside the town hall. The Earl of Annandale gave his full support and readily agreed to donate a tree to Moffat. Since 1993, Annandale Estates have provided free of charge an excellent tree for the town. This tree decorated with hundreds of white bulbs is the centrepiece of the town’s Christmas decorations.
The lighting committee and the people of Moffat very much appreciate this gesture by Annandale Estates, which ensures that Moffat always looks wonderful during the Christmas period.
